At the beginning of the section I read I didn't like Mrs. Codell's attitude, she came off as rude to me. During her interview with Mr. Turner her answers were short and made it sound like she didn't really want to get hired; that's why I was surprised when he did hire her and informed her that the panel loved her. On her way home she even realized her attitude was unbecoming. As I read on I learned that some of the people that Mrs. Codell works with are also not the most polite. For example, when a teacher from Italy pronounced one word wrong, the vice-principle made a big deal out of it. Also, Mr. Turner would call her very late at night about things that can wait. I believe there are some punishments that teachers take too far, Mrs. Codell taking the boy who says "suck my dick" to the bathroom and telling him to drop his pants being one of them. Even though it worked, she should've sat him in the corner or called his parents or something, not threatened to actually suck his dick. I don't understand why she wanted to seem "really mean for a while" at the beginning of the school year, if I was a new teacher I would want my students to like me right away. I do like the effort that she put in decorating her new classroom though, she seemed very excited for the kids to see it which shows that she cares about her job. She handled the stolen book situation well by taking the privilege of the library away from the kids, which resulted in the book being returned. Following that incident, she implemented a new rule: whenever a students takes a book from the library, he/she must turn in one of their shoes, then when they return the book they get their shoe back. This reminded me of when I was in fifth grade and someone needed to borrow a pencil, they had to give our teacher something that belonged to them and they only got it back if they returned the pencil, obviously a reliable system. I can tell that Mrs. Codell cares about her students, and that they enjoy her. She does and makes a lot of fun things for them to help them learn and get along. At the beginning of this section I did not like Mrs. Codell, but by the end I have grown to like her, and so have her students.
